On the edge of now is performative photo work that proceeds from a place.
A flooded subterranean floor, brightly lit.
It was the basement of a huge construction site, two floors underground.
I dove into that space with my performative dresses, dove into the coldest water I have ever been into and took all the pictures I could before my feet froze.
Then I spent some times with the results, quite a long time. There was no need of postproduction, of prints bigger than they were, the lighting was perfect. The pictures reminded me of ancient byzantine icons, of fondo-oro, they work together or singularly as images of devotion.
All it took, a sudden realization, was to turn them upside down, to make the reflections more real than the character itself, a character, a feminine body, an animal body, a being in flux, someone slowly changing into someone else.
This is something close to an altarpiece.
